The main thing to consider when buying oil is what your needs are. Oil specifications can be different from vehicle to vehicle. Oil specs can also change on the same vehicle from one year to the next. Check your owner’s manual to see what grade of oil and viscosity you need. Most newer cars require synthetic oils. For the proper grade look for the API starburst on the bottle’s label, it will list the grade that oil is up to spec for. It can sometimes seem confusing. When in doubt, ask your service tech, choosing the wrong oil can result in major repairs!
